Uber’s Travis Kalanick and Airbnb’s Brian Chesky share the top spot on the Fortune 40 Under 40 list, released on Thursday.
The San Francisco-based executives are not new to the list, with Chesky ranking 6th and Kalanick coming in 13th last year. They’re joined by several local business leaders, including Mark Zuckerberg, Marissa Mayer, and Kevin Systrom.
Fortune looked at power, influence, leverage, scale and ideas that disrupt for its sixth annual list. “They’re revolutionizing different industries, but this was the year Kalanick and Chesky became the figureheads for the ongoing clash between the potential of the Internet economy and the rules and regulations of the old economy,” the magazine said in a statement.
Nineteen of the 40 people on the list work in the tech sector. Fifteen of the 40 are women.
